SOM Financial Aid

About 90 percent of first-year students at UMMC's School of Medicine receive some form of merit- or need-based financial aid. Financial aid sources are diverse and include private donations, institutional accounts, state and federal governmental programs and commercial banks.

Every attempt is made to provide incoming students accurate figures for the estimated cost of attendance and tuition and financial aid awards. These figures sometimes require adjustment due to changes outside of the institution's control.

Online help

Financial Literacy 101 is an online course developed by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) specifically for medical students. The course is divided into seven quick modules, designed to provide information in a quick and precise manner. Modules are short, lasting about 4 minutes each. Entering students are urged to view this course as a resource to help learn how to manage and understand both student debt and budgeting.

Timelines for making financial aid awards, mailing statements, posting credits and issuing award checks are approximate and will depend on your Financial Aid file being complete.

Financial Information, Resources, Services and Tools (FIRST) is another program offered by AAMC to help medical student borrowers expand their financial literacy, make smart decisions about student loans, and manager their student debt wisely.
